The Essay - An Ode To John Keats. In 1819 John Keats wrote five odes, celebratory poems considered to be among the greatest in the English language. In this series of The Essay, five leading contemporary poets each celebrate a single ode by Keats, explaining what the work means to them.
This was the last great ode he was able to write before he died (Prince). This poem was written on crisp, fall day in September (Flesch). After Keats had composed this poem, he wrote a letter to his friend calling his work a genesis (Flesch). Even though this poem was written for Keats lover.

Although both Keats and Shelly belonged to the school of Romanticism in English literature and although they wrote the poems during the same year, there are significant differences between their poems “Ode on a Grecian Urn” and “Ode to the West Wind”. While Keats expressed his love for stillness, Shelly considered life as full of motion.
